Man Utd's end to 2020 was a tricky home fixture against Wolves that is one of the difficult opponents to play against. Wolves gives in all against the top six teams and in the current campaign, it has picked up wins against Chelsea and Arsenal and earning a point against Mourinho's Spurs.
Back from a draw against Leicester City, Man Utd had to try get 3 points from it's opponent to move 2nd in the league table. Both teams made changes to the sides that had played in their last EPL matches due to the crowded fixtures during this festive period with Man Utd bringing in Eric Bailly,Wan Bisakka, Matic, Greenwood and giving veteran striker Cavani his first start at Old Trafford.
Man Utd began the match in control at controlled the game for the first 10 minutes but Wolves quickly grew into the game and they looked dangerous on counter with Adama Traore and Pedro Neto giving Man Utd's backline a difficult time. Wolves had chances at halftime with the biggest chance coming to Roman Saiss after a good delivery from a free kick by Neto was saved by De Gea. Man Utd narrowly got the break through when Greenwood's cross was picked by Fernandes whose shot was saved by Wolves goalie Rui Patricio.
Goalless at halftime, Man Utd brought on Luke Shaw for Telles to make more forward runs at the restart. The second half produced good football from both sides but a breakthrough seemed unlikely and the game seemed to head into another goalless draw between the sides.
The breakthrough finally came in the third minute of added time when Bruno Fernandes picked Marcus Rashford with a long through ball. Rashford's shot that deflected off a Wolves player got past the goalkeeper to give Man Utd a win that sent them to 2nd in the league.
